General Question
All what you need to know about circumcision
Circumcision is the partial or complete removal of the male foreskin. From a medical point of view, the main reason is a narrowing of the foreskin (phimosis). The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, but can also be performed as an inpatient under general anesthesia. After the procedure, the glans is exposed or only partially covered by the foreskin.
Circumsion is a "simple" procedure that, when performed by professional and competent doctors, carries few risks. If everything goes well, the operation takes about 25 minutes. If an untrained person performs a circumcision, it can result in incorrect circumcisions, which the circumcised person may suffer from for the rest of his life.
If the patient is healthy, i.e. the physical examination is unremarkable and the patient opts for local anesthesia, then no further preliminary examinations are usually necessary. Blood-thinning medications should always be stopped before the operation (after consulting the doctor)
If the circumcision goes well, only slight pain is to be expected, which can be easily treated by taking a mild painkiller. Swelling can be reduced by cooling or applying ointments, among other things. When circumcising children because of a narrow foreskin, the administration of a suppository can also provide relief.
The rest periods and taking it easy after the procedure should definitely be observed. It is recommended to take daily sitz baths with a disinfectant effect (chamomile bath) in the first week after the circumcision.
If everything is positive after the bandage is removed on the second day after the operation, you can of course shower again after the bandage has been removed. In some cases, you may need to wait around 4-5 days.
If the healing process goes well, the stitches (if stitches were used) will dissolve after about one to two weeks. Since every person is different, the final healing process can take up to three weeks.
If the circumcision went well and there are no further problems during healing, you can have sex again after about 3 to 4 weeks. You should exercise some caution at the beginning and perhaps consider using lubricant.
No, I only perform circumcisions on male children, adolescents or adults.
