Frequently Asked Questions about Circumcision

In the area of circumcision, questions keep cropping up that can already be clarified in advance. So you can feel safe and go well informed in the first consultation. Here are some questions that are frequently asked about the topic of circumcision.
1What is a circumcision?
Circumcision is the partial or complete removal of the male foreskin. From a medical point of view, the main reason for this is a foreskin constriction (phimosis). The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, but also in hospital under general anesthesia. After the procedure, the glans is exposed or only partially covered by the foreskin.
2Is male circumcision a simple operation?
Circumstancy is a "simple" procedure that, when performed by professional and competent physicians, involves little risk. With good progress, the operation takes about 25 minutes. If an untrained person performs a circumcision, there may be erroneous circumcisions that the circumcised person may suffer throughout his life.
3Are pre-examinations necessary before circumcision?
If it is a healthy patient, so the physical examination is inconspicuous and the patient opts for local anesthesia, then usually no further preliminary examinations are necessary. Blood-thinning medication should always be discontinued before surgery (after consultation with the doctor)
4Is pain to be expected after the procedure?
If circumcision is positive, only minor pain can be expected, which can be treated well by taking a light analgesic. The occurrence of swellings can i.a. be relieved by cooling or applying ointments. When circumcising children due to foreskin compression, administering a suppository may also provide relief.
5Are there any measures that influence a positive healing process?
Rest periods and post-procedure care should be respected in any case. For the first week after circumcision it is recommended to take daily baths with disinfectant effect (chamomile bath).
6When can you take a shower or bath again?
If after the removal of the bandage on the 2nd day after the operation everything is positive, the showering after the dressing is of course possible again. In some cases, it takes about 4-5 days to wait.
7When is a complete cure expected?
If the healing process is positive, the sutures (if sutured) will dissolve after about one to two weeks. Because each person is different, the final healing can take up to three weeks.
8When is sexual intercourse possible again?
If everything went well with the circumcision and there are no further problems with the healing, you can have sex again after about 3 to 4 weeks. At the beginning you should exercise some caution and possibly consider the use of lubricating cream.
9Does circumcision lead to changes in sex life?
According to reports of some men, circumcision leads to more intense orgasms during intercourse and prolonged sex. Circumcision has no negative effects on potency. At the beginning, the glans is slightly more sensitive, which returns over time. Some women report a more pleasant look and a greater desire for sex through improved hygiene.
10Who bears the costs of a circumsion?
If the decision may be based on circumcision for religious, aesthetic, hygienic or sexual reasons, the intervention must be paid for as a private benefit.
11Do you also trim girls or women?
No, I only perform circumcisions on male children, adolescents or adults.
